About Me

Meg Freiter.jpg

Welcome to my E-Portfolio!

When I began pharmacy school at the South Carolina College of Pharmacy on the Columbia Campus, I was constantly told that “Pharmacy is a small world.” When I was accepted into the Walker Leadership Scholars Program, that lesson evolved into “Pharmacy is a small world, and you can change it now.” This leadership development program, unique to the South Carolina College of Pharmacy, supports Walker Leadership Scholars as they begin to engage as leaders in the pharmacy profession. As a result of this program, I began my Professional and Civic Engagement Pathway.

When I started pharmacy school, I aspired to open and own an independent pharmacy because I loved creating pretend businesses for fun when I was younger. The more I learned about some of the issues facing independent pharmacies, the more compelled I felt to help solve these problems rather than subject myself to them as an owner. I began to realize that creative vision and innovative ideas are nothing without a pioneering strategy, effective communication, and the ability to connect and leverage a variety of ideas and aspirations. This realization, coupled with my optimistic mindset that “better is possible,” is what fuels my desire to remain engaged in the profession through the pharmacy associations driving the profession forward. Next year, I will work for the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) as their next Executive Resident in Association Management and Leadership. My goal is to work on a national level to improve the pharmacy profession and patient care through leadership, advocacy, education, and business. This portfolio outlines how I found my voice, how my perspective about myself and the profession changed, and how I plan to impact the profession and others as a result.
